ABOUT Christie & Co and Exotic Elegance
Christieandco.biz is the extension of Christie & Co, a retail store and design studio in Palm Springs, Ca. The inventory on the website is based on the theme of the store. Operated by owner Christie Remsen, Christie is solely responsible for the collection of merchandise.
A friend of mine coined the term “Exotic Elegance” to describe the look and collection, and that’s what I’ve called it ever since! It has grown out of a labor of love; a love of design, a love of tropical locations, a love of crafts of artisans and other cultures. I like texture and organic materials, so many of my pieces feature this quality. Pieces that are truly unique and unusual are a design feature priority. Many companies use the word unique to describe their merchandise, when they’re really not. I feel I have not only discovered merchandise unique in design and materials but of the quality that I want Christie & Co to be known for.
Many of the organic pieces are also eco-friendly, or “green-design”, which I love, because they are made out of materials like bamboo, or recycled. And many of these are also, Made in America. More than ever, I feel in this small way, by supporting American crafters, artists, and small companies, we do our part to take pride in the talent this country has to offer and support our own local economy. I am very selective about the imports I purchase, and they all need to have something special about the design or materials, as well as be a good value.
Because many of the pieces I feature on the site have been created by individual artists, the pieces are one of a kind. If you see something you love, buy it, because it may not be there the next time you come back. The merchandise will constantly be changing, so come back often! I love the challenge of finding new and original pieces to give people a reason to come back and see what’s new!
